The Mythology
Kali emerged from the brow of Durga to destroy demons that threatened the cosmos. Her terrifying form—black skin, garland of skulls, tongue dripping blood—represents the destruction of ego and illusion. She is Time (Kala) itself, devouring all things, yet through this destruction she liberates souls from the cycle of rebirth.
